CONCORDCONSERVES.ORG RECEIVES FUNDING

Comprehensive website and e-mail program to provide an A – Z database of conservation tips, promotion of municipal green programs, carbon calculator, Green Pages, news, events and forums

CONCORD, MA June 28 – ConcordConserves.org, an environmental start-up, announced it has received funding from Dinah Buechner-Vischer, keeping on track a September launch of the website. Previous funding has been provided by the Concord Municipal Light Plant and Bartlett Interactive.

According to founder Harry Bartlett, “This funding will allow us to build a comprehensive environmental website and e-mail program for Concord as well as develop a strategy for deploying the website for other towns in Massachusetts.” Bartlett adds, “The idea is to empower people to act locally by providing an easy, cost effective process for adopting conservation measures.”

Bartlett Interactive originated the concept, subtitled ‘A Handbook for Low Impact Living’ and is developing the project along with REUSIT, a Concord based environmental organization as well as other residents.

According to Dinah Buechner-Vischer there is "an increased need for local education on what programs are available for businesses and residents and why conservation is becoming increasingly important".

Utilizing the open source content management platform Drupal, the website will include a comprehensive set of features including: an A to Z database of conservation tips, e-mail program, 'why conserve' data, a Freecycle plug-in from Craigs List, carbon calculator, news, calendar, a moderated forum, green pages listing local environmental businesses, an ‘Ask Henry’ [as in Henry David Thoreau] feature and spotlight reporting on what local residents and businesses are doing to become more sustainable.
